WFI saddles up for Queensland cattle drive
IAG-owned WFI Insurance will sponsor BeefBank’s inaugural Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive starting later this month.
The drive will involve rangers making a 100-day journey herding more than 1600 cattle along 775km of traditional stock routes in western Queensland to raise funds for people experiencing food insecurity.
WFI says it will provide insurance for support vehicles and adopt 26 steers for each school passed by the herd as part of an inter-school competition.
Participating schools can track their steers, and the insurer will donate $1000 to those whose animals finish in the top three, and for the last-placed steer.
WFI EGM Andrew Beer says the rural insurer is proud to back a “fantastic initiative, which elevates the awareness of food security challenges and the importance of the cattle industry for so many people and communities ... We also see this as a unique opportunity to engage with schools and agricultural communities along the route about how to reduce risks and improve safety on farms.”
The cattle drive begins in Longreach on May 18 and finishes in Roma on August 6.
