GB safety campaign spotlights mental health
Gallagher Bassett has launched an information campaign for National Safe Work Month that encourages employers to engage in “open dialogue” about psychological safety.
The claims manager has produced two videos on the case of a truck driver who – with support from Gallagher Bassett – returned to work after suffering a complex psychological injury triggered by witnessing an on-site death.
Gallagher Bassett Australia government partnerships head Emma Hosking says the number of mental health claims has soared over the past five years.
“With this increase, our focus has been on support for employers earlier, at the front end of the wellbeing continuum and ensuring our case managers are equipped with the right skills and knowledge to best support psychological injury claims,” she said.
Gallagher Bassett held a similar campaign for last year’s National Safe Work Month – run by Safe Work Australia.
“The response to last year’s campaign made it abundantly clear that conversations around workplace safety are critical,” Ms Hosking said. “Our aim this year is to take this a step further and encourage an open dialogue around psychological safety [and] wellbeing, and most importantly improve help-seeking culture.”
