Barry Nilsson eyes tech gains in three-year growth plan

Law firm Barry Nilsson has made technology, innovation and professional development strategic focuses for the next three years.

Among its goals is implementing new legal technologies, with targets to further utilise artificial intelligence tools.

“It’s important that we keep pace with emerging technologies – we want to capitalise on opportunities that ensure our people are able to take advantage of efficiencies and focus on delivering outstanding client service,” chair and insurance and health principal Peter Murdoch said.

“This includes continuing to leverage the data insights available to us and investing in the appropriate training and skills development to support our people to better use AI and technology.”

Mr Murdoch says the firm’s AI working group will evaluate products to ensure balances are struck between data security and improved productivity.

He says the firm has recorded a 43% increase in employee headcount since 2023.

“Our extraordinary growth over the last three years is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to not only attracting and retaining the best and brightest people to act for our clients but ensuring they have ample opportunity to grow within their roles to achieve their full potential and deliver excellent outcomes for our clients.

“This includes our continued focus on diversity and inclusion as we build on our achievement of 40% female representation at leadership level, as well as our commitment to driving environmental awareness and sustainability through our Impact project.”

The firm’s new strategic plan comes as principal Nicholas Andrew takes over as insurance and health lead, succeeding Rhett Kennedy, who retired in December.

Mr Andrew joined Barry Nilsson in 2014 and has served on its board since 2022.
