The Melbourne Marine Insurance Forum will discuss seafarer welfare as a seaworthiness risk rather than an HR issue when it meets next month.

Alison Cusack, principal lawyer at maritime and shipping law firm Cusack & Co, will examine the human cost of the Strait of Hormuz crisis, the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner’s recent focus on cruise ship crew conditions, the coastal trading exemption and unintended consequences a change could trigger.

Ms Cusack’s book, Choke Point: 150 Days Inside the Strait of Hormuz Crisis, will be released later this year.

The forum will meet on Tuesday September 8 from 11am at the offices of Colin Biggers & Paisley in William Street, Melbourne. The event will be live-streamed.
