Tributes for ‘beloved member’ of WA broking community
Broker John O’Leary died suddenly at the weekend, aged 62.
Mr O’Leary was Resolute Insurance Broking national manager for health and disability care, and a well-known figure in the WA broking community.
He was crowned National Insurance Brokers Association WA broker of the year in 2019.
NIBA says he was a highly experienced and respected insurance professional, who managed a diverse portfolio of commercial and corporate clients nationally.
Beginning his career in financial services as a NAB home loans manager, Mr O’Leary joined Wesfarmers in 1996 and moved into insurance broking in 2000, spending nine years at Interlink Insurance Brokers and 13 at Zenith Insurance Services before joining Resolute.
NIBA WA director Brett Piggott says the loss will be felt across the state.
“John was a beloved member of the WA broking community,” Mr Piggott said. “He was always willing to share his knowledge and time with others in the profession.
“Our thoughts are with his wife Kyla and kids Shannon, Jack and Jessica, and with everyone who knew and worked alongside John.”
Mr O’Leary loved horse racing, was an avid supporter of Fremantle Football Club and supported the Kids Are Kids! Therapy & Education Centre and other causes helping children with disabilities, plus Solaris Cancer Care and the Red Sky Ride initiative.
Resolute GM Mike Moriarty says he will be greatly missed.
“It is with a deep sense of loss that [director] Rob Fishwick and I advise friends and colleagues that John passed away on the weekend. He was a great friend and business partner. All of us at Resolute are saddened by this loss,” Mr Moriarty said.
“John was a valued colleague and friend to everyone at Resolute. He brought deep expertise to his work and genuine care to every client relationship, and he gave his time generously to the causes he believed in. We will miss him greatly, and our thoughts are with his family.”
