‘Passion project’ trade pack secures Ivory backing

Ivory Insurance will underwrite cover created by digital agency Viz targeting tradies and small business owners.

Covers include public and products liability, tools of trade and tax audit insurance.

Ivory boss and former PSC CEO David Hosking says the group is thrilled to partner with an agency “with a bold vision and a unique approach to SME insurance”.

Mr Hosking left PSC last year after it was bought by Ardonagh. He was formerly Allianz chief GM of broker and agency.

“While Ivory is a new name in the market, our team brings over 100 years of underwriting expertise, strong financial backing and an award-winning claims service,” he said.

“As specialists in SME casualty, we see this partnership as a natural fit.”

Viz offers cover for tradies including air-conditioning technicians, bricklayers, builders, carpenters, cleaners, concreters, electricians, fencers, gardeners and landscapers, handymen, painters, plasterers, plumbers and tilers.

Its executive director Simon O’Dell is also Insurtech Gateway Australia MD.

Mr O’Dell says most of his family are tradies and Viz is a “passion project”.

“I’ve seen first-hand how out of step the insurance industry can be with their needs and mindset. This partnership is a significant milestone,” he said.

“It’s great to be on the tools helping the Viz team, backed by a casualty specialist and supported by the team at Insurtech Gateway.”
