NIBA remembers ‘family man, trusted colleague’ Greg Vlahos

National Insurance Brokers Association president Nick Cook has paid tribute to “distinguished broking leader” Greg Vlahos, who died over the weekend.

As insuranceNEWS.com.au has reported, WTW Asia-Pacific CFO Mr Vlahos suffered an unexpected health issue, and head of Pacific James Baum expressed the company’s “heartfelt condolences”.

NIBA says Mr Vlahos served “with distinction” for more than six years on the association’s board, and was chair of the finance committee.

“Greg was a proud family man, a friend and a trusted colleague,” Mr Cook said. “He made an immeasurable impact on our insurance broking profession through his long service and thoughtful guidance on the NIBA board.

“He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Gregʼs family and loved ones during this very difficult time.

“His warmth, generosity and unwavering integrity set an example for all of us. His contributions to NIBA and the wider insurance broking profession will endure, and his absence will be deeply felt across our community.”

NIBA CEO Richard Klipin says the “entire NIBA community” is in shock.

“Greg was not only a wise counsel and advocate for our profession, but also a much-loved member of the broking community,” he said. “We will remember him for his many contributions, his steady guidance and his kindness.”

Many friends and colleagues have left tributes on insuranceNEWS.com.au’s LinkedIn page, with almost 80 comments so far.

“A true gentleman with a heart of gold,” said former NIBA president Tim Wedlock. “What tragic and sad news.”

Former local WTW leader Simon Weaver wrote: “Greg you were one of a kind – talented, generous, supportive, loyal – we will all miss you dearly.”

Willis head of broking for global construction Trent Williams said: “One of the very best, genuine, caring (& quick-witted) humans you will ever meet. So grateful to have had you in my life.”
