NIBA aims to improve broker directory

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) is redeveloping its popular Need a Broker service.

CEO Dallas Booth says it will provide better outcomes for consumers and give brokers higher-quality leads by reclassifying the specialties list.

“The service is getting substantial use from people making enquiries through the website and through the call centre,” Mr Booth told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “We’ve been having a very good look at the service to make sure it’s as user-friendly and helpful as possible.”

The call centre receives about 2300 calls and the website attracts 6000-8000 visitors a month.

“Need a Broker is a valuable tool for potential clients and we want it to be a valuable tool for brokers as well,” Mr Booth said.

After the redevelopment, visitors will be able to choose between personal lines or commercial lines.

NIBA Registrar Mel Sanfilippo says if a consumer wants personal cover, providers of commercial lines will be filtered out.

Online visitors seeking commercial lines will have a new streamlined list of brokers to choose from.

“We have analysed the searches made through the Need a Broker website and have drawn up a new, heavily reduced specialty list for commercial insurance types, which covers the vast majority of searches made by users,” Ms Sanfilippo said.

Because some SME owners may not know what cover they need, an alternative search method will enable visitors to choose the sector in which they operate and view a list of brokers that service it.

Member brokers have until next Monday to provide information for the revamped website.
