ICA welcomes new general counsel

Betty Ivanoff has become general counsel at the Insurance Council of Australia, replacing Anne Knight.

Ms Ivanoff has more than 26 years’ experience in corporate law and governance, having held executive roles at Star Entertainment, Coca-Cola Amatil and GrainCorp.

She also serves as chair at South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and as an independent non-executive director at Sparke Helmore Lawyers.

ICA says Ms Ivanoff’s appointment follows “an extensive competitive recruitment process”.

Ms Knight, who left the general counsel job earlier this month, says she is stepping back from full-time executive positions.

She took the ICA position in December 2020, having previously served as litigation head at Commonwealth Bank.

“What started as a casual job during Covid-19 to deal with business interruption cases developed into a fulfilling and interesting full-time role supporting the insurance industry in dealing with many challenging issues,” Ms Knight wrote on LinkedIn.

“As a team, we were driven to improve outcomes for insurance customers and the broader community, and I leave with many fond and fun memories despite all the hard work.”

Council CEO Andrew Hall has praised Ms Knight as an “immense source of knowledge and guidance”.

“While we’ll deeply miss Anne’s strategic insights and leadership, we’re grateful for the strong foundation she has helped build,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“The culture of excellence and collaboration she’s fostered will continue to guide us forward.”
