Consumer law group picks new chair

The Consumer Action Law Centre says board member Ciara Sterling will become chair after today’s annual general meeting, taking over from David Berry.

Ms Sterling is founding CEO and director of Thriving Communities Australia and has more than 20 years’ experience collaborating across the corporate, government and community sectors.

“CALC has a proud legacy of driving systemic reform, strengthening consumer protections, amplifying people’s voices and ensuring people are treated fairly and systems are held accountable,” she said.

Mr Berry, who has been chair since 2021, will continue on the board.

The centre today released its annual Impact Report, which shows its legal practice delivered more than 2889 services last financial year.

“Throughout the year, we worked closely with our sector colleagues, Financial Counselling Australia and Financial Rights Legal Centre, to keep the insurance industry in check, ensuring they deal with customers fairly, especially those who need help the most,” the report says.
