Allianz continues food drive for visiting students
Allianz Partners has extended a tie-up with Foodbank Australia for another three years as new research highlights the extent of food insecurity among international students.
The partnership’s campus market stall program has provided more than 110 tonnes of fresh produce and pantry staples to more than 12,000 international students since 2024.
The initiative, operating in all the mainland states, has delivered 20 market stalls at 12 institutions.
Allianz Partners’ latest Food Insecurity Impact Report found 84% of international students worry about having enough to eat, and 80% have skipped meals or eaten less because of financial constraints.
Its executive head of health Miranda Fennell says the partnership reflects an intention to support international students through more than insurance products.
“It’s about making a genuine difference in the day-to-day lives of the students we support.”
Allianz Care Australia’s broader support for international students includes campus support teams and the Sonder mental health, safety and wellbeing app.
Foodbank WA chief executive Kate O’Hara said: “Food insecurity doesn’t discriminate, and university students, particularly those far from home and their usual support networks, are more vulnerable than many people realise.”
