Veteran broker retires with ‘enviable legacy’
Cowden SA broker Gordon Tonkin is retiring after 51 years.
He is a former state manager for Marsh, Lowndes Lambert Group and Heath Lambert. His brokerage was bought by Cowden in 2017.
“Gordon had a storied career in SA, progressing from office junior in 1975,” director Brian Atkin told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “He became an integral part of the SA Cowden business.
“Gordon had the rare qualities of exceptional technical expertise and an uncompromising passion to support the insurance needs of his clients, thus leaving a legacy that is to be envied.”
Cowden SA state manager Joseph Clifton says Mr Tonkin has a track record built on technical expertise, honest advice and unwavering client advocacy, and he is “a genuine industry identity”.
“His leadership across multiple roles and his willingness to mentor others have helped shape many careers,” Mr Clifton said.
“I appreciate and am thankful for Gordon’s contribution to Cowden, and to me personally.”
Mr Tonkin plans to spend more time with his wife at their Adelaide Hills property.
