‘Something for everyone’ at NIBA Convention

The National Insurance Brokers Association has revealed the line-up for this year’s convention on the Gold Coast.

The October 19-21 event at the RACV Royal Pines Resort features golf, tennis, “paint and sip”, boxing and yoga, plus a raft of expert speakers.

Olympic swimming gold and silver medallist Brooke Hanson is MC.

“Inspiring keynotes by world-renowned industry leaders, sessions for professional development and insights to stay ahead in a landscape that’s rapidly evolving, there’s something for everyone,” NIBA says.

At a gala and awards dinner, the broker and young broker of the year will be crowned.

Beginning the expert sessions is Shaping the Agenda – Key Issues in Policy and Regulation featuring NIBA’s Allyssa Hextell, the Insurance Council of Australia’s Alexandra Hordern, Counsel House director Mick Veitch and DLA Piper’s Sophie Devitt.  

Alternatively, attendees can see Insurtech Australia CEO Simone Dossetor showcasing leading disruptors.

The NIBA president and CEO address will be followed by Mega Forces Shaping the Global Landscape, Exploring How to Thrive Amidst Disruption.

A session called Shaping Change – Global Forces Reshaping Insurance will feature Lloyd’s director Chris Mackinnon and QBE regional CEO Sue Houghton.

And another Shaping Change seminar – on geopolitics, economic insights and policy responses – will feature WTW’s James Baum, ICA CEO Andrew Hall and CoreData Group’s Andrew Inwood.

An afternoon session on the broker of the future will feature Austbrokers’ Craig Anderson, CBN CEO Richard Crawford, Aon’s Eric Harris, AEI’s Emily-Rose Srbinovska, and McLardy McShane’s Shaneika Sutherland.

On the last day, there is a pre-breakfast session with Underwriting Agencies Council CEO Jenny Bax, or Shaping Change in a Warming Climate with Zurich.

Aon’s Jason Disborough will present The Megatrends Impacting Clients, while Shaping Change - The Consumer of the Future will feature Aon’s Lynette Walsh, JLT’s Gary Okely, and Escalate Consulting’s Simon Petie.

After morning tea, there will be several breakout sessions:

  • Broking in a Soft Market
  • AI, Cyber Risk and the Insurance Response, with BJS Insurance Group COO Dianne Phelan, Coalition GM Sam Weaver and Lockton’s Mark Luckin
  • Problem-Solving Like a Pro, with Samantha Rush
  • The Future of Strata in Australia, with NIBA CEO Richard Klipin, CHU’s Kimberley Jonsson, BAC’s Mitchell Lipscombe, and Mr Veitch.
  • Financial Literacy for Insurance Professionals, with WTW’s Greg Vlahos, Austcover GM Alan Moran and BHSI’s Sami Jaghbir
  • The Strategic Direction of NIBA will then be presented by association president Nick Cook, Mr Klipin, Gary Oakley and Austbrokers’ Rebecca Wilson.
  • A debate on the statement “it is harder to be a broker today than it was 30 years ago” will be held by Mr Cook, Ms Phelan and Willis Temby’s Brett Piggott
