Colleagues farewell ‘man of great integrity’
A funeral for insurance industry veteran Lindsay Hicks will be held on May 5.
The WA professional worked in the sector for four decades, starting at Royal Insurance and later holding roles at QBE, NTI and SGIO in Perth and Albany. He was most recently broker and mentor at Interlink Insurance Brokers.
Interlink MD Tryan Christos told insuranceNEWS.com.au that decades ago his father worked alongside Mr Hicks, who died on Sunday after battling cancer.
“Lindsay was respected, dependable and generous with his time and knowledge, the kind of colleague you could always count on. He brought warmth, quick wit and genuine care to everyone around him,” Mr Christos said.
“He brought humour to every interaction, and had a way of making the toughest days a lot lighter.
“He will be deeply missed and always remembered for his kindness and the way he made people feel.”
A LinkedIn post announcing Mr Hicks’ death attracted more than 60 comments.
Integra director Paul Shand recalled working with Mr Hicks at Royal Insurance in the late 1970s and attending his 21st birthday party. “A man of great integrity. RIP,” he wrote.
Former NTI underwriter Kim Rossiter says Mr Hicks was “never without a smile on his face” and always made time for others.
“One of the kindest souls I have ever had the pleasure of working with ... our chats over morning coffees and laughs over beers will be remembered fondly. Most of us will have a funny story of a dance move that came out on special occasions. Rest in peace, mate.”
360 underwriter David Hutchinson said: “Lindsay was a gentleman and a legend who helped me learn so much when I was first starting out. I really enjoyed our ‘coaching sessions’ at the pub and was always amazed at how many people would stop and say hello to him on the terrace ... thanks for the endless laughs.”
Former NTI WA state manager Peter Marchant wrote: “The insurance industry has lost a great mentor and teacher, the West Coast Eagles have lost a great supporter, and the world has lost one of the great dad joke tellers of all time. He was a pleasure to know.”
And Ansvar’s Samantha Gay said: “Lindsay was one of the best. A man of great knowledge and sincerity. Always smiling and laughing, he was a pleasure to work with.”
The funeral will be at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park in Padbury at 10.30am. A celebration of Mr Hicks’ life will follow at the Marmion Angling and Aquatic Club.
His wife Karina has invited all who knew him to attend the service.
