Tributes have continued to flow for broking leader Tim Wedlock, with the broader insurance industry and beyond recognising his remarkable contribution.

As insuranceNEWS.com.au has reported, 58-year-old Mr Wedlock was fatally injured while on holiday in Nashville, Tennessee, when an elderly driver allegedly ran a red light and hit a group of pedestrians.

AEI Insurance Broking Group executive chairman Mr Wedlock was an award-winning broker and former National Insurance Brokers Association president. He was hugely popular and respected, and had a particular passion for attracting younger people into the industry.

Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh says “Guru”, as Mr Wedlock was affectionately known, was a stalwart of Gordon Rugby Club and a popular figure across Sydney rugby union.

“Tim has been the heart and soul of the Gordon club for many years and his tragic loss is sorely felt by everyone at the Stags and across Australian rugby,” Mr Waugh said.

“He will forever be remembered as the ultimate clubman whose love and support for Gordon spanned decades. He epitomised the very best qualities our game holds dear.”

The Australian Trucking Association says it is “deeply saddened” by Mr Wedlock’s death.

“Tim was a long-term supporter of the ATA, its TruckSafe program and the broader trucking industry, which he was recognised for as the recipient of the ATA’s Don Watson Memorial Award in 2014,” the association said.

ATA chair Mark Parry says he is mourning the loss of a friend.

“My last memory of Tim was talking to him and his wife Prue at Trucking Australia in June,” he said.

“As always, he was smiling and celebrating life. My thoughts are with Prue and Tim’s children, Matt and Ash.”

NIBA paid tribute to Mr Wedlock earlier this week, and AEI CEO Noel Kelly said everyone at the company was “devastated”.

Insurance Council of Australia CEO Andrew Hall says the loss is “terribly sad” and Mr Wedlock was “a highly regarded executive”.

“On behalf of the board and members of the Insurance Council of Australia, we extend our deepest condolences to Mr Wedlock’s wife, his family, friends and many colleagues across both our sectors,” he said.

Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance CEO Katrina Shanks describes Mr Wedlock as “one of the true giants of our profession”.

“What set Tim apart, however, was not just his professional achievements,” she said. “He was widely respected for his generosity, mentorship, warmth and unwavering willingness to support others. He championed emerging professionals, supported important industry initiatives, and was a tireless advocate for both the insurance and transport communities.

“His legacy will live on through the many individuals, organisations and industries he helped shape.”

The Underwriting Agencies Council says Mr Wedlock was one of the most respected figures in broking.

“Through his leadership, mentorship and willingness to share his knowledge, he inspired countless people to build successful careers across our industry,” UAC said.

“While Tim’s career was centred within the broking profession, his influence extended across the broader insurance community.

“He believed in collaboration, valued strong industry relationships, and earned the respect of brokers, underwriting agencies, insurers and business partners alike.”
