Artes swings into Australian crane cover market

British construction and engineering underwriting agency Artes has continued its Australian expansion, introducing a specialist crane product developed with Mobius Insurance.

Artes entered the local market in 2024, providing cover for commercial loggers. Earlier this year it introduced plant and equipment and associated general liability and third party property damage for all trades.

The new offering is for crane, rigging and specialised heavy machinery movement operators, and is supported by Lloyd’s capacity.

“Cranes are at the heart of our business, and our experience in the US market has given us a deep understanding of the risks operators face,” Artes Specialty CEO Chris Thomas said.

“This new product brings that expertise to Australia in a way that is both innovative and highly practical.”

Cover includes material damage up to $15 million, with up to $10 million for any one item, alongside business interruption and “on hook” cover.

The wording incorporates riggers’ liability, warehouseman’s legal liability, preservation of property, motor truck cargo and transportation exposures. It has liability limits up to $20 million for third party property damage, road risk and commercial general liability.

The product is distributed locally through Mobius, with claims managed, adjusted and settled in Australia by Topaz Claims Management – specialists in complex heavy machinery, transport and liability.

Artes is managed by Asta Underwriting Management, which is part of professional services and technology group Davies.
