Perth bomb attempt declared terror pool event
The attempted bombing of a Perth Invasion Day rally has been declared a terrorism incident under reinsurance pool legislation.
The WA Joint Counter Terrorism Team has charged a man, alleging he threw a home-made improvised explosive device at the January 26 event. The device did not detonate.
The declaration by Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino means the incident meets the definition of a terror event under the Terrorism and Cyclone Reinsurance Act.
“Based on currently available information, the incident did not result in property damage or injuries, and no insured losses are expected,” the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation said last week.
The corporation administers the scheme, which is backed by a $10 billion federal guarantee.
