ID security crucial for cyber insurers
Cloud platform Delinea says insurers are placing greater importance on businesses’ ability to manage user identity and security.
A survey of more than 750 US and UK company security leaders found 97% say identity control influences their premium or coverage terms in some way.
About 72% of surveyed organisations say they filed a cyber insurance claim in the past year – up 10% on the previous year – with 46% of claims attributed to identity-related issues or compromises involving privileged accounts.
Delinea has also identified a growing shift towards AI adoption, with 86% of respondents reporting their insurers provide premium reductions or credits for using the technology in their security.
Integration of AI into threat detection and monitoring systems is identified as the most common influence on premiums, flagged by 63% of respondents.
About 42% say their cyber policies include specific exclusions around AI misuse or liability.
Delinea CEO Art Gilliland says insurers “are sending a clear message” on the importance of robust security measures.
“Identity-first security is more than just best practice,” he said. “It’s now an underwriting requirement, especially in the age of AI.”
