DAS climate data ‘bridges gap’ in farm risk

Digital Agricultural Services has launched a climate data set to help insurers evaluate rural property risk from rainfall variability, temperature and drought.

CEO Anthony Willmott says it delivers the precision needed to assess and manage climate vulnerabilities at property level, from large-scale farming to cropping.

He says other climate data sets can be limited by poor granularity, coverage and inconsistencies across providers, but the high-resolution DAS package supports better decisions with information down to each property.

“This new data set bridges a major gap in the market,” he said. “We’re offering non-biased, standardised data that stakeholders can trust to inform critical decisions.

“Businesses require accurate and timely data to make informed decisions. This is not just about compliance, it’s about practical risk management.”

DAS introduced climate risk scores for rural properties in 2017 and its platform combines geospatial, sales, environmental and sector-specific data.

It has more than 140 customers including IAG, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and major agriculture groups such as Cargill.
