Michael Miller has been appointed EGM Commercial & Intermediated at Suncorp following the departure of Darren O’Connell after 35 years at the insurer.

Mr Miller, currently EGM Personal Injury Claims, starts in the role on Monday, supporting broker partners and commercial customers. Matt Pearson, who was acting in the role, will resume as EGM Statutory Classes.

During more than a decade at Suncorp, Mr Miller was formerly CFO Commercial, CFO Insurance and EGM Motor, Property & Speciality Claims.

“Michael is a highly regarded leader in the team and brings not only expertise, but the right energy and passion to the role as we continue to focus on delivering on our ambitions within the Commercial and Intermediated portfolio,” CEO Insurance Product & Portfolio Lisa Harrison said.

Mr O’Connell left the position in early August, a year after Ms Harrison announced a merger of the Commercial and Intermediary Distribution teams. Mr O’Connell had been selected to lead the expanded team, while EGM Intermediaries Andrew Mair left the company.

Ms Harrison says Vero’s ongoing investment in initiatives like the Insightful Broker series and NIBA Warren Tickle Memorial Award Program, as well as recent acknowledgement for claims excellence through the Mansfield Awards, demonstrated Suncorp’s commitment to supporting its broker partners and commercial customers throughout their insurance experience.
