Suncorp EGM Commercial & Intermediaries Darren O’Connell has left his position, the insurer confirmed today.

In a statement released to insuranceNEWS.com.au Suncorp says it “will continue to support brokers as we recruit for this important role”.

In August last year Insurance Product and Portfolio CEO Lisa Harrison announced a merger of the Commercial and Intermediary Distribution teams, with Mr O’Connell selected to lead the expanded team, while EGM Intermediaries Andrew Mair left the company.

Now, just a year later, Mr O’Connell is leaving too.

“Darren is highly respected and has been with Suncorp for over 35 years,” a company spokesman said.

“We wish him all the very best as he leaves Suncorp to take a break from work.”

Current EGM Statutory Classes Matt Pearson will act as EGM Commercial & Intermediaries from Monday, Suncorp says.

“Having been with Suncorp for 17 years and in the industry for more than 25 years, Matt is a highly regarded and experienced insurance leader,” the spokesman said.

“His extensive experience in portfolio management and commercial claims will help ensure a smooth transition to this critical role.”
