Zurich rewards self-driving Teslas with lower premiums
Tesla owners who use the supervised full self-driving feature are being offered a lower premium by Zurich to reflect reduced risk.
Tesla says vehicles using the technology have seven times fewer collisions compared with regular electric vehicles.
Zurich has acted as the preferred insurance provider for Tesla in Australia since 2024, building on a partnership in Switzerland since 2016, and is the first insurer in Australia to "actively lean into this space," product manager David Toma says.
"The data shows that drivers using this technology are involved in far fewer accidents, so it’s important they can access insurance that reflects this lower risk," Mr Toma said.
Zurich says it is the second insurer in the world to recognise FSD (Supervised) as a risk rating factor.
The updated InsureMyTesla offer covers eligible Australian customers with FSD (Supervised) in their car. The technology includes eight external cameras which provide a 360-degree view of the nearby environment, processing over a million pixels every millisecond.
Tesla FSD technology launched in Australia and New Zealand in October, and customers have now self-driven more than 132 million kilometres.
"The data is clear – FSD (Supervised) is making driving significantly safer, and it's encouraging to see InsureMyTesla by Zurich pioneering this benefit and reflecting the reduced risk for Tesla owners," Tesla Australia & New Zealand country director Thom Drew said.
