Gallagher buys Sydney brokerage

Gallagher has purchased The Protectors Group (TPG) brokerage, increasing its presence in Sydney’s western region.

The business, which includes The Protectors Insurance Brokers and Regent Insurance Brokers, specialises in construction, hospitality and transport for commercial and corporate clients. It also services personal insurance needs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“TPG is a second-generation family business that represents a very good cultural fit for Gallagher and expands our geographical presence in the key growth area of western Sydney,” President and CEO Patrick Gallagher said.

The Protectors Insurance Brokers was started by Peter Michell in 1982, with the business later managed by his son David and son-in-law Vince Gioiello.

“We are very pleased to welcome David, Vince and their team to Gallagher,” Mr Gallagher said.

The team of 12 will operate from their Liverpool office, moving to the Gallagher brand effective from today. The business comes under the direction of Head of Branches Sean Gallagher.

The acquisition is Gallagher’s second in Australia in the past few weeks.

Last month it purchased Adelaide-based Donnellys Insurance Brokers, started by Insurance Brokers Network Australia founding member and former chairman Mike Donnelly.
