Doctors’ group MDA celebrates centenary

MDA National marked its 100th anniversary with a gala themed “trusted for generations”.

The group – founded in 1925 by doctors in WA – is a member services organisation for 44,000 doctors and other medical professionals and owns the medical indemnity insurer MDA National Insurance.

As part of the celebrations, the insurer has released a documentary about its history, including key milestones.

MDA National CEO Tim Plant says the group has shown resilience “throughout many industry changes”.

“Privacy requirements, mandatory reporting obligations, credentialing standards – the framework within which our members practise is more complex than ever before,” he said.

“And it will only grow more so, particularly as regulators across medicine, healthcare and insurance adapt to keep pace themselves with technological change.

“These and other complexities make our members’ day-to-day lives more challenging, but we are absolutely confident in our ability to remain our members’ trusted partner.”
