Criterion appoints new CEO

Criterion Underwriting, which specialises in complex and hard-to-place risks, has appointed Ian Mundy as CEO as the business expands its capabilities for brokers and their clients.

The agency says Mr Mundy brings extensive experience in insurance, reinsurance and structured risk solutions, as well as longstanding relationships across the Australian broker market and international insurance markets.

Founding director Danny Gluszkiewicz says the appointment is an important step in the development of the business.

“We have been very deliberate about where we want to take Criterion, and Ian brings the experience and relationships to help us broaden what we can offer brokers,” he said.

“Just as importantly, he understands the things we do not want to lose as we grow. Technical underwriting, responsiveness and strong broker relationships will remain central to the business.”

Mr Mundy will lead Criterion’s strategy and operations, building on its underwriting business while developing capabilities to address risks that may require broader market access or alternative structures.

“Criterion has built a strong reputation for technical underwriting, responsiveness and making decisions close to the risk,” he said.

“There is an opportunity to build on that by helping brokers with risks that do not always fit neatly within conventional insurance markets.”

The focus will be on understanding the risk, working closely with brokers and bringing together the right expertise, structures and markets to find an appropriate solution, he says.
