Building repairer enters liquidation

Insurance restoration and repairs company AJ Grant Building is in liquidation.

A June 5 meeting resolved the company would be wound up and Darren John Vardy appointed as liquidator, a regulatory notice on the Australian Securities and Investments Commission website says.

AJ Grant was founded by Adam Grant in 1992 and initially focused on renovations for Sydney property developers. It later moved into facility management, maintaining and upgrading schools and military barracks, its LinkedIn page says.

The company entered the insurance repair management business in 2001 and has been active in assessing, repairs, restoration and emergency response.

The privately owned business, based in suburban Sydney, has managed a national trade base of more than 2000 contractors, according to its website.

It has branches in Newcastle, Wagga Wagga, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Yatala, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne and Perth, the site says.

A contract with Allianz Australia is among more than 10 “disclaimer of onerous property” notices filed by the liquidator to ASIC.

An Allianz spokesperson told insuranceNEWS.com.au: “We are aware that AJ Grant Building has gone into liquidation. To support our customers, Allianz has been transitioning work to alternate builders on our panel.”

The insurer says despite recent extreme weather in Queensland and NSW’s Hunter and Mid North Coast regions, it is confident there is plenty of building capacity in the market.
