Strata commissioner to speak on ‘critical’ insurance issues
NSW strata commissioner John Minns will address attendees at an Insurance News half-day seminar that will examine trends and challenges in the rapidly expanding sector.
Mr Minns is the first person to hold the role in the state, and sees resilience and sustainability as key issues. He also believes it is “critical” to solve strata insurance challenges.
Tickets to the May 30 event in Sydney can be purchased here.
Mr Minns is expected to discuss maintenance and repair issues, along with the role the insurance sector should play in improving outcomes. He is also likely to reference the “hot button issue” of conflicts of interest and commissions.
CHU CEO Kimberley Jonsson will kick off the expert-led seminar by discussing growth trends in strata, before principal for climate analytics at Finity Consulting Sharanjit Paddam looks at the impact of natural disasters.
A panel session will then focus on affordability and address the issue of intermediary remuneration. On the panel are Taylor Fry principal Jonathan Cohen, CEO at Whitbread Insurance Brokers Michael Giansiracusa, industry consultant John Trowbridge and Australian Consumer Insurance Lobby chair Tyrone Shandiman.
Expert Bronwyn Weir will talk on the pressing problem of building defects, before Mr Minns wraps up the event.
Insurance News Publisher Terry McMullan says the seminar is “an ideal opportunity” for brokers and underwriters to learn about the many issues facing strata.
The event is made possible by sponsor CHU, and entitles attendees to four NIBA CPD points and four ANZIIF CIP points.
