Young brokers have spent a weekend in the Kimberley helping out the local community, courtesy of Vero and the National Insurance Brokers Association.

The state winners of the NIBA Young Broker of the Year Awards, sponsored by Vero, took part in the Young Broker Alumni Experience in the form of a visit to the WA town of Fitzroy Crossing to connect with the local Kimberley community – the recipient of the $25,000 community donation.  

The donation will fund a range of gear and practical expenses for the Central Kimberley Football Basketball League program, including new team kits, transportation costs and training equipment. 

This year’s state winners were joined on the trip by Young Broker alumni, and Vero and NIBA executives, including CEO Richard Klipin.  

The group volunteered at the Central Kimberley Football League Grand Final, setting up and packing down equipment, dishing up food to players and spectators at the canteen, and supporting the junior games.  

Suncorp’s CEO commercial & personal injury Lisa Harrison also attended and said the experience showed how resilient communities can rebuild following a disaster. 

“For communities across Kimberley, the start of 2023 brought a flood event unlike anything they’d felt before, with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie’s record rainfall across the Fitzroy River catchment evacuating more than 1500 residents in its wake,” she said.  

“We’ve had the privilege of immersing ourselves in this remarkable community, hearing their stories of strength and determination in the face of such a severe weather event.”  

Vero said the initiative once again showcased its investment in young brokers’ professional development.
