McLardy McShane moves into workers’ comp, opens in Hobart
McLardy McShane will enter the workers’ compensation sector, in a further expansion following the opening of a branch in Tasmania.
The brokerage says its workers’ comp offering will “predominantly operate in alignment” with its joint venture partnerships but will also provide services to its network’s client base.
The operation is led by John Capes, who has more than four decades’ experience in the field and previously worked as managing principal for PSC’s workers’ comp scheme. He is currently a director at WorkersComp Insight, which offers technical expertise to brokers and employers.
“John’s experience in the workers’ compensation sector is extremely valuable in what is a complex environment for many brokers,” McLardy McShane chief growth officer Nick McLardy said.
Mr Capes says the market is “experiencing some major challenges” that will have an “impact on the employers and their future rates”.
“The ability to support employers in the management of their workers’ compensation programs is something that I have had a passion for over many years in the consulting space,” he said.
Meanwhile, McLardy McShane’s new Hobart-based operation is led by former AFL player turned insurance broker Tom Allwright.
It is the brokerage’s fourth new branch in 12 months and means it has a presence in every state and territory.
“Tasmania has been a clear void in our network for some time now, so it’s very exciting to be announcing this new expansion,” Mr McLardy said.
“More importantly, though, we are delighted to be partnering with Tom in bringing McLardy McShane to Tassie.
“Since our first meeting with him, our team has been very confident Tom will be the ideal associate, with his great character and local knowledge.”
