Gallagher Australia and Asia CEO Sarah Lyons has returned to the UK after more than a decade down under to head the broking giant’s specialty division in London.

A spokesperson told insuranceNEWS.com.au Ms Lyons remains in the local CEO role until July 1 and more information about “next steps” will be shared “in due course”. 

The local business has been on the hunt for a new head since the change was announced in February.

Ms Lyons – who joined Gallagher after the 2014 acquisition of OAMPS, where she was head of commercial broking in Melbourne – says her time in Australia has been “truly unforgettable”.

“I’ve had the chance to work with fantastic colleagues, insurers and partners, built lifelong friendships, and experience a country that has felt like a second home,” she said.

“After 11 and a half amazing years in Australia, it’s time for the next chapter ... I’m thrilled to be continuing my journey with the same incredible company, stepping into the CEO specialty role, while also getting the added bonus of being closer to family.”

Ms Lyons added Asia to her responsibilities in 2023, and her time at Gallagher Australia also included a stint as COO. She has previously worked in London, Manchester and Leeds in the UK, and spent time at Halifax Insurance Ireland.

Gallagher Specialty works with multinationals and insurance brokers worldwide, providing bespoke program design, risk placement and consulting.
