Gallagher hails ‘proven record’ of new CEO

Gallagher has appointed Marsh executive Alex Lumby as its new CEO of Australian broking following a “thorough search process”.

As reported in a Breaking News bulletin, Mr Lumby – currently MD, head of Mercer Marsh Benefits Pacific and chief client officer for Marsh Pacific – replaces Sarah Lyons, who moved to London earlier this year to head Gallagher’s specialty division.

A Gallagher spokesperson confirmed Mr Lumby “has accepted the position CEO of Australia”, but declined to comment further.

A note from Asia-Pacific MD Steve Lockwood, seen by insuranceNEWS.com.au, says Mr Lumby will start at Gallagher in the new year “once his contractual obligations are complete”.

“Alex has demonstrated himself to be the right Gallagher fit, demonstrating the qualities Gallagher values in a leader including strong sales focus, utmost professionalism, proven track record of building talented individuals and creating a strong culture in the teams that he’s led,” Mr Lockwood said.

“I am excited to have Alex joining Gallagher to lead the Australian business in the next step of its journey.”

Mr Lumby began his career in London before moving to Australia with Marsh in 2004. He held senior roles at Aon and JLT before returning to Marsh in 2019.
