Consultant aims to connect brokers and networks

Brokers choosing between authorised representative networks struggle with a lack of transparency and information that is difficult to compare, the director of a service launched to provide independent guidance says.

Pinnacle Connect director Montsie Valdez says her company aims to help brokers navigate the increasingly complex landscape and make informed decisions, while assisting networks to connect with representatives who align with their strategy, culture and compliance standards.

“Over the past 12 months I’ve spoken with close to 150 brokers and engaged with 15 AR networks, ranging from established groups seeking growth to new entrants,” Ms Valdez said. “What quickly became clear is how difficult it can be to build a clear picture of what’s available.

“Our research suggests there are more than 40 AR networks currently operating in Australia, yet there is no central source of information and no consistent way to compare them.”

Ms Valdez says Pinnacle Connect aims to bridge the gap by providing a structured, independent approach that helps brokers and networks assess suitability.

“Our role is to qualify both sides,” she said.

Ms Valdez has more than 25 years’ experience across brokerages, AR networks, and claims and support services, including business development and leadership positions at Community Broker Network and McLardy McShane.

She has also had roles at Ausure, OAMPS, Blue Broking and Austbrokers Premier.

Brokers often rely on informal referrals or relationships rather than a structured evaluation process when choosing a network, she says.

“Brokers tell me the process feels opaque. They might hear positive things from colleagues, but when they begin exploring options the information is often fragmented, difficult to interpret and time-consuming to compare.”

In most cases, brokers need to sign non-disclosure agreements and go through lengthy processes before they understand the commercial structure of a network, she says.

AR networks also face increasing regulatory and compliance obligations, making it critical to attract representatives who align with their governance frameworks and business models.

By creating greater visibility, Pinnacle Connect aims to support stronger, more sustainable partnerships between brokers and networks as the sector evolves, Ms Valdez says.
