State maintains freeze on workers’ comp rates
Victoria’s average WorkCover premium will stay at 1.8% of wages in 2026-27, holding for the fourth year in a row.
The government says it has reformed the scheme to modernise it and ensure it remains financially sustainable. It is piloting new programs and support for the highest-risk workers in the state’s public sector, including nurses, teachers and police officers.
“We’re improving support for injured workers without increasing costs to businesses,” WorkSafe Minister Ben Carroll said.
Victoria’s 2026-27 budget includes a $5.8 million investment in free training and tailored support for businesses helping injured employees get back to work.
