State insurer elevates deputy chair

The Victorian Managed Insurance Authority says deputy chair Helen Silver will succeed Elana Rubin as chair.

Ms Silver has been on the state insurer’s board since January last year and previously worked at Allianz Australia for more than nine years, including as deputy GM, workers’ compensation EGM and corporate governance and conduct EGM.

She has also worked at the Victorian WorkCover Authority.

State Finance Minister Danny Pearson says Ms Silver’s “extensive experience in public administration and insurance will be invaluable as VMIA continues to provide trusted risk and insurance services”.

Ms Rubin has been chair since 2017 – the longest spell in the agency’s history – and oversaw reforms to the state insurer’s operations.

“Elana Rubin has been an outstanding chairperson, guiding VMIA through significant change and strengthening its support for the Victorian public sector,” Mr Pearson said. “On behalf of the Victorian government, I thank her for her dedicated service and leadership.”

David Morris will join the VMIA board on a three-year term and Glenn Sedgwick has been reappointed for another two years.
