Scores of projects unfinished as WA builders collapse

Homeowners in WA have been advised to contact QBE regarding their home indemnity cover after two residential builders entered liquidation this month.

Liquidators were appointed on June 20 to contractors Inka Builders, trading as Inka Developments, and Mercedes Group, trading as Zorzi Builders and Grandwood Homes.

“Contacting the insurance provider enables homeowners to begin the process of engaging another registered builder to complete the work or managing other remedies they may be entitled to,” state building commissioner Peter Stewart said.

Inka Builders has about 40 projects in progress that have home indemnity insurance implications. Mercedes Group has about 16.

Homeowners with incomplete or defective building work should contact QBE. Affected subcontractors should contact liquidator Cameron Shaw of Hall Chadwick.
