Rowell takes SIRA deputy chair role

The NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority has appointed Helen Rowell as deputy chair and Lynelle Briggs as an independent board member.

Ms Rowell, who joined the board a year ago, is a former Australian Prudential Regulation Authority deputy chair and led the recent General Insurance Code of Practice independent review.

She is on the board of the Australian Retirement Trust and Mental Health Australia.

Ms Rowell replaces Nancy Milne, while Ms Briggs and John Della Bosca join as new independent members.

Ms Briggs is chair of the General Insurance Code Governance Committee and has held senior public service roles spanning the transport, maritime, social policy, health, emergency services and employment sectors.

Dr Della Bosca has held senior ministerial roles in the NSW government and was a leader in the campaign for the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

“The addition of our new members and deputy chair will create a more dynamic, well-rounded board that will be well positioned to guide SIRA through its next phase of growth,” chairman Nicholas Whitlam said.
