Proudfoot becomes consumer watchdog CEO

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says Sarah Proudfoot has been appointed CEO after holding the role on an acting basis since February.

Ms Proudfoot, who joined the agency in 2005, has held senior roles including EGM of the infrastructure division – with oversight of telecommunications, rail, ports, airports, electricity and gas – and the 2023 childcare inquiry.

She was appointed EGM of the anti-scam centre last August.

“Sarah has consistently demonstrated her ability as an outstanding strategic leader with personal drive, credibility and integrity, and a strong commitment to public service,” ACCC chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said.

Ms Proudfoot has taken over from Scott Gregson, who left in March to become Australian Securities and Investments Commission CEO.
