NSW, ACT join forces on weather warnings

The NSW State Emergency Service will issue ACT severe weather warnings under an agreement with the territory’s Emergency Services Agency, to ensure consistent cross-border messaging.

Under the deal, the NSW SES website and the Hazards Near Me NSW app will show updates for both regions.

The parties aim to implement the changes over the next few months and have them in place for the next storm season.

“Strong collaboration with our cross-border partners is crucial for the benefit of our community,” ACT Emergency Services Minister Marisa Paterson said.

“A strong relationship is founded on trust and mutual support. Once again, our NSW counterparts are demonstrating this commitment, which will not only enhance the effectiveness of severe weather warnings but also strengthen the long-term partnership between us.”

NSW SES commissioner Mike Wassing says it is an “important step forward to ensure people can access information whether they are travelling within the ACT or NSW”.
