Farmers receive more drought resilience funding

A $43.2 million federal and state support package will help NSW farmers strengthen their resilience to drought and make climate adaptations.

The funding comes under the second phase of the federal government’s Farm Business Resilience Program, with a focus on subsidised learning opportunities to prepare for and manage drought.

Farmers will have access to coaching, workshops, digital learning, peer-to-peer case studies and other resources.

“We understand that many farmers are doing it tough with these harsh conditions, with [this] announcement building on the assistance we have available year-round, including concessional loans and free independent financial counselling,” Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins said.

“Our government is committed to supporting our farmers [to] build resilience to drought, which will support them to continue producing the products we all love and rely on.”

The NSW government says the program has engaged with nearly 28,000 participants and assisted in the development of more than 2500 farm business plans.
