The federal opposition has named Nationals MP Pat Conaghan as shadow assistant treasurer and financial services spokesman.

Mr Conaghan, who represents Cowper in NSW, has been an MP since 2019 and previously served as shadow assistant minister for social services and prevention of family violence.

He takes over from Luke Howarth, who lost his seat at last month’s federal election, and will serve alongside shadow treasurer Ted O’Brien.

Mr Conaghan will shadow new Assistant Treasurer and Financial Services Minister Daniel Mulino.

The opposition has also appointed NSW Nationals senator Ross Cadell as shadow emergency services minister and Liberal MP Melissa Price to the cybersecurity and science portfolio

The appointments were announced by Liberal leader Sussan Ley and Nationals leader David Littleproud following a brief Coalition split.
