Call for submissions as state eyes impairment rating reform

The NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority has called for feedback on whether the workers’ compensation scheme’s psychiatric impairment rating scale is fit for purpose.

A statutory independent review is being led by former NSW chief psychiatrist Murray Wright, who has released an issues paper as he examines whether the rating scale delivers fair, consistent assessments and how it fits within the broader workers’ compensation framework.

The review will consider alternative approaches to assessing whole person impairment after psychological injury.

The regulator says feedback will help shape the review’s next stage and inform recommendations on how permanent impairment from psychological injury should be assessed.

A final report is to be tabled in the NSW parliament next August. Find more information about the review here. Submissions are open until November 13.
