ASIC home cover comparator visited less than 25 times a day
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s north Queensland home and contents comparison website is being viewed fewer than 25 times a day on average, according to statistics released to insuranceNEWS.com.au.
The comparator was set up more than 10 years ago under efforts to address affordability challenges in the region.
Last week’s federal budget allocated $1 million over two years for ASIC to maintain the site, which enables users to see which providers offer cover and the range of premiums in their postcode.
Users cannot enter features of their own property and, as a result, premiums quoted are separated into lower, medium and higher bands. Entering a Cairns postcode for building insurance at a sum insured of $650,000 returns annual premiums ranging from $2712 to $19,864.
Insurance cannot be bought from the site, the results are not binding and “actual quotes may be significantly different”.
For the 12 months from May 1 last year, the site received 8410 total page views, 7000 of which were of the home page.
There were 5879 active users across the period, and 3000 selections of the insurance type “building” and 267 of “contents”.
ASIC says the premium information was last updated on April 29.
