NSW state insurer icare has issued a warning about scam calls being made by someone purporting to be from the organisation.

“We are aware of scam phone calls from an individual identifying themselves as ‘James from icare’ or claiming to be from icare,” the insurer said.

“Reports indicate the caller may use different phone numbers and may attempt to obtain personal, financial or other sensitive information. These calls are not being made by icare or on our behalf.”

icare says while it may contact customers about their claim, policy or services, it will “never ask you to provide sensitive personal or financial information through an unsolicited phone call”.

It says anyone with suspicions should end the call and contact icare using the details on its website.

Anyone who receives a call from “James” should report it to icare and Scamwatch.

“Your reports help identify scam trends and support efforts to disrupt scam activity” icare said.
