Insurers to revisit Alfred-hit communities

The Insurance Council of Australia will host more consultation sessions in southeast Queensland for people affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Forums in Upper Coomera and Hervey Bay will allow residents to speak with insurer representatives about their claims and other related matters. They follow similar sessions in August.

More than 131,000 claims have been lodged in relation to the storm, amounting to about $1.48 billion in insured losses. About 82% of claims are closed, ICA says.

“Despite eight months having passed since Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred impacted southeast Queensland, we acknowledge that for some, their recovery is ongoing,” ICA mitigation and extreme weather response director Liam Walter said.

“Insurers remain committed to progressing any outstanding claims from this event and we encourage anyone with queries to make a booking with their insurer.”

The sessions will be at:

  • The Well in Upper Coomera on November 18 from 9am-5pm
  • The Clubhouse in Hervey Bay on November 20 from 9am-5pm
