IBANZ hails departing CEO

Insurance Brokers Association of New Zealand CEO Mel Gorham will step down next month after five years in the role.

President Neil Cousins says progress made under Ms Gorham’s leadership has resulted in a stronger, more professional and influential organisation in support of New Zealand broking.

“Mel’s leadership coincided with a significant period of legislative change in the financial services industry,” he said.

“Her work in helping draft and present numerous submissions to government has resulted in better outcomes for insurance consumers and the broking industry as consumer advocates.”

Ms Gorham has three decades’ experience in the insurance industry, almost equally split between roles with intermediaries and insurers.

She joined IBANZ from QBE and previously worked for 10 years as a broker specialising in financial lines and liability insurance.

Mr Cousins also notes improvements to IBANZ’s continuing professional development program, ensuring it has evolved with industry changes and provides engaging, relevant training for brokers at all career stages.

“Mel will leave IBANZ in a stronger position than when she joined us five years ago and we wish her the best for her future endeavours,” he said.

IBANZ has engaged Artemis Executive Recruitment to search for a new CEO. Ms Gorham’s last day will be June 26.
