Hospital authority charged after patient attacks nurse

A Victorian hospital faces charges after a nurse was seriously assaulted by a patient with a history of violence.

Latrobe Regional Health in Traralgon has been accused of failing to provide a safe working environment over the attack in late 2024.

The matter is listed at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on July 1.

WorkSafe alleges Latrobe Regional Health failed to provide mobile or personal duress alarms to employees, or instructions about the location of fixed alarms at the site.

It also allegedly breached the Occupational Health and Safety Act by failing to maintain systems for recording a history of violence or aggression on a patient’s medical records and not implementing risk management strategies.
