MetLife makes case for trauma cover
Critical illness protection offers flexibility that “makes a real difference”, yet many Australians overlook it, according to MetLife.
Unlike income protection, which replaces part of an insured’s salary, critical illness or trauma cover provides immediate support with a lump sum benefit to people who are diagnosed with a serious illness or have a major medical episode such as heart attack.
“It’s about giving people choice and control at a time when so much can feel uncertain,” MetLife Australia chief insurance officer Meray El‑Khoury said.
“That flexibility can make a real difference to peace of mind and recovery.”
MetLife says trauma cover is typically not available through superannuation, which may explain why many Australians miss out.
