FSC tracks down 'lost' life policies for flood victims

The Financial Services Council (FSC) is helping flood-affected Australians who are trying to track down “lost” life insurance policies.

The FSC says it will contact its life insurance members and ask them to check their records and contact policyholders with any relevant information to help obtain replacement documents. The service does not apply to life cover held via superannuation as insurers don’t hold the details of individuals covered by group policies.

“The life insurance industry is working together to ensure every affected person can check their records and be reunited with their life insurance policy details,” FSC CEO Sally Loane said.

Ms Loane says the FSC can help Australians needing to make a claim for a relative in the case of a fatality, or due to an injury that prevents work, or those who have simply lost policy documents and details.
