Howden Re expands in Hong Kong
Howden Re has launched a Hong Kong-focused reinsurance broking platform and appointed a team to staff it.
Roy Wong will become reinsurance Hong Kong MD from July 21, and Brian Chan and Karen Liu will join as senior brokers.
Mr Wong, who has 25 years’ experience in the industry, was most recently Aon Re head of Hong Kong reinsurance.
He will report to Howden Re International Asia-Pacific head Andy Souter and work closely with the regional team including analytics head Emily Lo.
His appointment follows other senior hires, including Jimmy Tsai as Taiwan treaty reinsurance head and John Philipsz as Australia and New Zealand MD.
Mr Souter says Mr Wong brings technical expertise, market knowledge and client relationships that will help deliver specialist solutions grounded in local insight and backed by global resources.
“Roy’s appointment reflects our continued investment in the Asia-Pacific region and our commitment to building long-term, sustainable reinsurance capabilities,” he said.
Mr Chan joins Howden Re after six years at Guy Carpenter in Hong Kong. He was previously a JLT Re director and an actuarial analyst and catastrophe modeler at Willis Re.
Ms Liu also joins from Guy Carpenter and was previously a director at JLT Re in Hong Kong. She began her career at Prudential Assurance.
