Global insurer AIG has announced Jon Hancock, executive vice president and CEO general insurance, will retire at the end of the year after a distinguished 40-year career. 

Mr Hancock will transition to the role of senior adviser from December 31, following more than six years in executive leadership roles at AIG, reporting to president and CEO Eric Andersen.  

AIG says he will provide counsel on strategic priorities that support AIG’s continued performance and long-term success. Mr Hancock will provide executive support for select growth initiatives, continue to serve on the boards of directors of Talbot Underwriting, AIG UK, and Tata AIG General Insurance Company.  

He will also serve as a resource to leaders across the company, with a focus on advancing AIG’s strategy of underwriting excellence and developing the next generation of underwriting talent. 

Mr Hancock joined AIG in 2020 as executive vice president and CEO international insurance, at what the company says was a pivotal time in its turnaround, and in 2025 was named to his current role.  

Prior to joining AIG, Mr Hancock served as director of performance management at Lloyd’s of London from 2016 to 2020 where he oversaw performance and global risk management.  

Earlier in his career, Mr Hancock spent 26 years at RSA in senior leadership roles.
